Description:
Adventures in CyberSound - A Future for Radio?, A Radio for the Future? is on on-line PhD by Project which examines and documents the history of radio and parallel media technologies, telephony, television etc., and asks the question is there a future for 'radio' in the next millenium? The project 'proper' has been the construction of an on-line presence for Radio Australia the international broadcast service of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Radio Australia On-Line has been developed to feature multilingual news and information services with an Asia Pacific focus and uses proprietary technology to include the use of 'live' non-roman based script. Radio Australia On-Line is a major component of ABC On-Line, which is currently accessed more than a million times per week and won numerous awards for design and content.
To comply with university protocol, 'a permanent and visual record' of the project will be also presented on paper. The 'presentation' will of necessity also include a CDROM containing (for the examination process) date specified 'captures' of both the documentation and project 'proper' sites. The CDROM will also include 'captures' of the Radio Australia On-Line site at various stages of development.
It is intended that the content of 'hard copy' sub-Thesis required (20-40,000 words) will, along with substantial statistical information and copies of all electronic correspondence received and sent during the construction period (1995 - 1998), also be both posted on-line prior to examination (late 1998) and included on the above CDROM. The URL below is the documentation site Adventures in CyberSound which then as appropriate, links to the project 'proper' Radio Australia On-Line.
