Commemorative brass medallion of Maurice, Prince of Orange, who fought against the Spanish in the Netherlands with the young soldier, George Yeardley.
 
Remarks:Portrait medallion of brass w/ the Latin legend: "MAVRITIVS.AVR.PRINC.COM.NASS.ET.MV.MAR.VE.FL.EQ.OR.PE RISCELIDIS." 1615. Maurice, Prince of Orange, Count of Nassau and Meurs, Marquess of Vere and Flushing, Knight of the Order of the Garter, 1615." Possibly cast by the 17thC. German Medallist Christian Maler. (V & A Mus., London) Note: In 1601-2, George Yeardley, future owner of Flowerdew Hundred, fought under Maurice, Prince of Orange in the Netherlands against the Spanish. Two medallions are in the British Museum, one of silver and one of brass . A similar medallion was found at Burr's Hill , Rhode Island in an American Indian burial. Object found in Test Pit C.
