Essays in History is published annually by the graduate students of the Corcoran Department of History, University of Virginia. It is edited by Drew VandeCreek.

Beginning in 1994, Essays in History will appear in an electronic format available free of charge through the internet. Although the format has been changed, Essays in History will remain a referreed journal printing articles by graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Virginia. Volume 36 will be the first issue to appear only in electronic form.

The Editorial Board would like to thank David Seaman and Monique Dull of the Electronic Text Center at the University of Virginia, Monique for her preparation of the HTML version of the text and David for his general supervision of the transition to the electronic medium.
