CONNECTICUT YANKEE ILLUSTRATION

In this illustration Dan Beard overtly connects Arthur's aristocratic contempt for common people with both the inequalities of ante bellum slavery and late 19th century American capitalism. This is one of the many illustrations that add layers of meaning to the novel that aren't explicit in MT's words.
