This depicts the reception at Aunt Patsy's for the Italian twins, and indicates the "place" that "Nancy the slave woman," as the narrative calls her, occupies in such a scene. Because the novel contains so many illustrations -- over a thousand -- it includes several dozen such representations of the daily life in a "slaveholding village."
