The Westinghouse Dynamo
WESTINGHOUSE DYNAMO
ILLUMINATED COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION

By the next major American exposition, the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893, the biggest attractions were the dynamos in the Electricity Building. Above left is the Westinghouse Dynamo, the biggest of them all. Above right, Electricity Tower at night -- a part of the fair's lavish display of the ability of the new machines to dispell the darkness. Hank Morgan builds a dynamo in Merlin's Cave, and it provides Connecticut Yankee with a machinus ex deum by allowing him to electrocute thousands of knights.
