A New Look for Huck

Around the turn of the century, E.W. Kemble produced three new illustrations for the Underwood Edition of Huckleberry Finn, brought out by the American Publishing Co., Hartford, Conn. The edition is copyrighted 1901; the illustrations are dated 1899. Notably, the Underwood Edition contains only three illustrations; the original Huck had 174. Moreover, the three vary greatly from Kemble's 1885 work. By now, Kemble was a well-known illustrator, largely because of his work for Twain.
